Carotenoids in breeders as antioxidant and for immunomodulatory protection in chicks

چکیده
The use of carotenoids for yolk, skin and leg pigmentation is a common practice in poultry production. Lutein and zeaxanthin are naturally present in many feedstuffs like alfalfa or corn and are the main carotenoids naturally present in the yolk (>80%). That is why they are also supplemented as feed supplements in diets lacking suitable levels. Other natural (capsanthin) and synthetic (cantaxanthin o ethyl ester of beta-apo-8’carotenoic acid) carotenoids can also be supplemented.

Effects of canthaxanthin supplementation in the ROSS breeder diet on oxidative stress of chicks
A field trial was run with the objective to determine the effect of 6 ppm canthaxanthin in ROSS breeders feed (throught supplementation with 60 ppm CAROPHYLL® Red) on the anti-oxidant status of their progeny. The 1 day chicks have very variable antioxidant status and could partly explain differences on their performances. The canthaxanthin is a carotenoid studied for its antioxidant activity. T...
متن کاملComparative investigations of infectious runting and stunting syndrome in vaccinated breeder chicks by inactivated reovirus and chicks from non-vaccinated breeders
Reoviruses are important pathogens responsible for poor growth performance and silent losses in the poultry industry. They are associated with many disease and syndromes such as malabsorption (runting and stunting syndrome), respiratory diseases and immunosuppression. Broiler birds are most susceptible to viral infections during the early post hatching period. Therefore, the transfer of materna...

Chick embryo development is associated with an accumulation of polyunsaturated fatty acids in lipid tissues making them susceptible to lipid peroxidation. It has been accepted that canthaxanthin has high antioxidant capacity. Research findings have repeatedly indicated that feeding 25(OH)D3 (25-hydroxycholecalciferol), to poultry breeders, broilers and layers increased performance and health. T...

متن کاملDifferential effects of specific carotenoids on oxidative damage and immune response of gull chicks.
Micronutrients are essential for normal metabolic processes during early development. Specifically, it has been suggested that diet-derived carotenoids can play a key role in physiological functions because of their antioxidant and immunostimulant properties. However, their role as antioxidants remains controversial. Additionally, it is also unclear whether oxidative stress mediates their immun...
